Brief Visitation (Painting For Ashley)
I have created several versions of this work beginning with the original drawings where the grand old French farmhouse and the vines below were the main focus of my attention, so rustically idyllic in my mind that they seemed to be the measure of my dreams.
As mentioned previously, the vines seemed like a secret alphabet on the page that is the landscape, and I felt ghosted by something I wasn't quite understanding.
Looking ever closer led to a review and reversal of my approach. This specific painting was created on black canvas. The emphasis here was on the blood cradled within the land that provides the foundation for the whole human thing.
